Don’t remember the first home game but the first away game was at Southampton in the 3rd round of the FA Cup in 1975.
I remember Mike Shannon scored a penalty for them, we won 2-1 then well, we went on and took the piss, didn’t we?

April 94.

We lost 2-1 to Liverpool, right near the end Tony Gale under hit a backpass and Ian Rush helped himself. I should have known what was to come on the years ahead but it was too late, I was hooked.

In the very first minute Martin Allen scored an absolute peach, Upton Park went mad, my old man lifted me in the air so I could see the celebrations and my life would never be the same again.

That home game must have been the most one sided game I’ve ever seen. Think we had 85% possession and about 35 shots to their 2

Didn’t fat frank score in the 92nd minute

My 13 year old brain might be wrong tho

Re: Your first game?
I was a latecomer...aged nine when I went to my first game at Upton Park, with my older brother and his friends.

February 2nd 1982: Irons 1 - Man City 1

Bonzo scored our goal and there were 26,000 inside the Boleyn. From what little I recall, the game wasn't great - but the atmosphere was electric and I was hooked from that moment on. Our fans were on a different level to anything I'd seen or heard before (my dad had taken us to a few Fulham games, because he knew one of their players).

North Bank, up near the raised corner as it met the Chicken Run. Hadn't discovered my spiritual home in the South Bank at that point.

I also remember a group of blokes near us singing: "Itchy balls, they make you barmy." To the tune of "Johnny Lyall's Claret and Blue Army".

I was nine, so thought this was hilarious.

And John Lyall. What a manager that fella was. We were spoiled by the football that man's teams played.

Re: Your first game?
I should add, I'd 'opted' to support West Ham aged just (almost) three - while parading around the house saying so during the FA Cup Final in 1975.

Thankfully, we lived in east London at that point - so it was the right local choice. I had no fucking idea. Still don't.

Don't know the game as I was only two, but it was 1959. Means I have attended games in 8 different decades.
